Hi _____! Hope all is well. As part of my ongoing coaches professional development work, I’m reaching out to ask you a favor. You’ve had the opportunity to observe my coaching up close, and I value your insight as a resource to help me improve. Would you be willing take a few minutes to give me some feedback in four specific areas of culture and leadership? For each area, please give me a letter grade (like school, A+ through F based on my performance) and a brief explanation of your assessment. Your honesty (even more than your kindness) is appreciated!
Area #1: My TEACHING (How committed am I to talking about, emphasizing, highlighting, illustrating, and clarifying the core values of my team’s culture? How strategic and creative am I in helping my players learn and improve? Do I take ownership of the important part I play in their learning process?)
Area #2: My ENCOURAGEMENT (How effectively do I celebrate behavior I value and want to see repeated in my program? Am I aware and intentional about the ratio of positive to negative feedback I provide to my players? Am I as committed to encouraging winning behavior as I am to encouraging athletic performance?)
Area #3: My ACCOUNTABILITY (Does accountability from me seem like a positive and productive tool for growth, or like some unhealthy punishment? Am I willing to embrace the discomfort of holding everyone on the team equally accountable? Do I effectively manage my negative emotion - anger, frustration, disappointment, etc. - when players fall short of my expectations?)
Area #4: My MODELING (Am I the standard bearer for winning behavior in our program? Is what I say is important in alignment with what I do on a daily basis? If/when my behavior doesn’t meet the standard, do I seem willing to take ownership, both privately and publicly?)
